Access Moçambique

Nithio is continuing to scale its impact across Sub-Saharan Africa with a new debt facility in
Ignite Energy Access Moçambique, through its Facility for Adaptation, Inclusion and Resilience
(FAIR).
At Nithio, we back solutions that drive climate resilience and economic inclusion at scale. Solar
home systems remain one of the most effective tools to bridge the electricity access gap for
last-mile customers – delivering not just clean, reliable power, but also unlocking meaningful
improvements in household incomes and livelihoods.
This transaction marks Nithio’s debt facility in Mozambique – an important step in our
geographic expansion and a continuation of our commitment to financing high-impact energy
access solutions. Ignite power Moçambique serves customers who remain excluded from the
grid due to affordability and access barriers, advancing the goal of ensuring no one is left
behind.

Ignite Energy in Mozambique

Founded in 2014, Ignite Energy Access is focused on transforming lives through clean,
affordable energy. The company now operates across 12 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa,
serving more than 20 million people, and is set to connect 100 million people by 2030.
Since launching in Mozambique in 2019, Ignite has connected millions of customers, providing
solar home systems and productive-use appliances to off-grid communities. Through its pay-
as-you-go model, the company is expanding access to electricity while reducing reliance on
polluting fuels such as kerosene – accelerating electrification and lowering emissions.
Mozambique is one of the most underserved energy markets in Africa – and one of the most
ready to move”, says Arthur Houston, Managing Director, Ignite Energy Access Mozambique.
“Having already connected millions of people across the country, we are now accelerating our
operations and raising our ambitions to reach millions more. We’re not just connecting
households – we’re giving families and businesses the tools to generate income and take
control of their futures. With our proven model, technology, and the substantial scale we’ve
built, this kind of blended capital is what allows us to turn that momentum into long-lasting
impact.

Why Solar Home System Financing Matters

Financing affordable and clean energy sits at the core of Nithio’s investment strategy. As a
leader in pay-as-you-go analytics and renewable energy financing, we see solar home systems
as a critical pathway to scaling access for underserved communities.
The sector has matured significantly, supported by stronger repayment performance and a
more robust ecosystem – including mobile money infrastructure and integrated customer
management systems. These developments have strengthened the foundation for sustainable
growth.
Nithio’s Risk Analytics Engine enables granular portfolio insights, driving more efficient capital
deployment and disciplined risk management. This allows us to support high-performing
companies like Ignite as they scale impact without compromising credit quality.
FAIR is designed to provide catalytic capital to businesses delivering scalable, high-impact
solutions in underserved markets.

“Mozambique is an important geographic addition to our portfolio, and Ignite Energy Access is
exactly the kind of partner we look to back – strong execution, deep customer reach, and

measurable impact. Their recent acquisition of ENGIE Energy Access further reinforces the
scale and opportunity ahead. We’re excited to support their next phase of growth through
FAIR.”
— Raghav Sachdeva, Chief Investment Officer, Nithio

Looking Ahead

This investment reinforces Nithio’s commitment to backing companies that are closing the
energy access gap at scale. We look forward to supporting Ignite’s continued growth in
Mozambique and expanding access to clean, reliable, and affordable energy for underserved
communities.
