Our Impact
There is an urgent need to scale climate finance in Sub-Saharan Africa
Enabling a just energy transition and building climate resilience
Nithio was founded to direct large capital flows to rapidly push forward a just energy transition.
Our AI-powered analytics allows us to identify and reach even the most vulnerable households. On top of that, our blended finance approach enables us to work with local household energy companies that are reaching last-mile customers.
As a blended finance vehicle (combining commercial, development finance, and philanthropic capital), Nithio FAIR helps to catalyze both public and private capital at scale towards a just energy transition; building climate resilience and adaptation for communities most impacted by but least responsible for climate change.
Our innovative, risk-informed approach enables Nithio to lend not only to large, international distributors but also to smaller, local distributors who are providing energy access to last-mile customers.

Clean energy products, such as solar home systems, clean cooking, and solar productive use appliances, support:
Climate Resilience
These solutions offer backup power during outages and shocks and access to vital information. For instance, adopting solar home systems led to a 64% reduction in disaster damage.
Financial Inclusion
The Pay-As-You-Go (PAYGo) model reduces upfront capital requirements for households, small businesses, and farmers, and promotes mobile money adoption.
Food & Water Security
Clean energy improves irrigation practices up to 50%, increasing agricultural productivity in Sub-Saharan Africa via productive use appliances like solar water pumps.
Job Creation
Scaling clean energy access to meet the 2030 electrification targets creates job opportunities, particularly in off-grid sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, and enterprise development.
Gender Empowerment
Increased energy access means more job opportunities for women, with a 23% boost attributed to time saved on household tasks. Countries with higher electricity access have witnessed a 9.5% rise in female participation in the labor force.
Health
Access to clean cooking fuels reduces household pollution, mitigates extreme heat’s health impact, and improves living conditions. 4 million people a year die prematurely from household air pollution.
